Standoff in Tower Grove area ends as suspect surrenders

TOWER GROVE SOUTH – A five-hour standoff at a home in the 3900 block of Utah Street ended peacefully Friday as three people surrendered to St. Louis police.

Police said officers had gone to the home to arrest a man, 27, who is wanted for murder in Washington state and other violent crimes here. The man was later identified as Kyle Johnson-Clark.

Two other people, a man and a woman, were in the home with the suspect. It was unclear whether the two were hostages.

The suspect was armed, and multiple shots were fired, including inside the home, police said. No one was injured, although several police vehicles were struck.

The police presence in the Tower Grove South neighborhood was heavy, with roughly a ten-block area cordoned off by officers.

Police were tight-lipped during the standoff, leaving many neighbors wondering just what they were supposed to do.
