St. Louis appoints third Poet Laureate

On Friday, St. Louis will welcome its third Poet Laureate.

Jane Ellen Ibur, who will assume the role for the next two years, grew up writing poems and later attended Webster University. She is a poet educator with the Community Arts training program of the Regional Arts Commission and has had her work featured in over 50 literary magazines and anthologies, in addition to two collections of her own work.

As Poet Laureate, Ibur will serve from April 1, 2019 to March 31st, 2021, introducing more poetry into the lives of St. Louis citizens through workshops, social media, and public appearances.

Ibur will be sworn in by Lewis Reed, President of the Board of Alderman, on Friday at noon at the City Hall Rotunda in downtown St. Louis. Hosted by Brick City Poetry Festival, UrbArts, and the St. Louis Poet Laureate Task Force, other poets and arts leaders will share readings and stories in celebration of the new appointment.
