ST. LOUIS – Mayor Tishaura Jones has declared a state of emergency in the city after the recent rainfall and flash flooding. The disaster declaration will enable the state to request federal support for St. Louisans.
“Communities throughout our region were devastated by last night’s record rainfall and flooding,” Jones said in a statement. “My heart goes out to all those families who were impacted, and I remain in consistent communication with our partners at the county, state, and federal governments. This declaration of emergency will help us get the resources we need to begin our city’s recovery.”
St. Louis City and County, with support from the Red Cross, set up a regional evacuation shelter at the Richmond Heights Community Center, 8001 Dale Avenue in Richmond Heights. Residents can call 1-800-RED-CROSS for more information.
The City Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) reminds residents to keep an eye on local forecasts, have weather radios handy, and if necessary, evacuate when first responders tell them to.
