The Urban League of Metropolitan Saint Louis is honoring more than a dozen communications professionals Saturday at a special Black History Month recognition program in connection with one of the organization’s food giveaways.

“We are extremely honored to celebrate the accomplishments of these very talented media  professionals who have dedicated their career to educating, informing and empowering our  community,” Michael P. McMillan, the Urban League’s president and CEO, said in a statement Friday. “We recognize the  important role media plays in communicating the work of the Urban League and we appreciate the skill and dedication of these individuals in sharing our impact.”

Among those being recognized is Antonio French, an editorial writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and also the publisher of MetroSTL.com, The NorthSider and The Southsider.

The others are:

  • Carol Daniel, news anchor, KMOX Radio, Entercom St. Louis 
  • Elliott Davis, anchor/reporter, KTVI Fox 2 News  
  • Nathan Dixon, vice president of sales, Entercom 
  • Lady Merdean Fielding Gales, co-founder, St. Louis chapter of Coalition of 100 Black Women
  • Art Holliday, interim news director, KSDK Five on Your Side  
  • BJ “The Radio DJ” Holiday, on-air personality, program director and community affairs director, iHeartMedia St. Louis  
  • Andre Holman, production supervisor, STL TV 
  • Kelley Hoskins, anchor/reporter KTVI Fox 2/KPLR  
  • Rene Knott, anchor/reporter, KSDK Five on Your Side  
  • Wiley Price, photojournalist, The St. Louis American 
  • Oscar Rayford, photojournalist, KMOV  
  • Anthony Slaughter, meteorologist, KSDK Five on Your Side  
  • Charles “Chuck” Spearman, general manager, WESL Radio  

The celebration will be held on the  campus of St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley just before the Urban League’s 28th COVID-19 emergency relief food distribution. The recognition program begins at 11:15 a.m., with food distribution from noon to 3 p.m.  

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Inc., founded in 1918, is a nonprofit that provides empowering social services to area residents. The agency’s mission, it says, is to empower African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance,  social equality and civil rights.
