Schnucks aims for world record with pineapple display

SOUTHWEST GARDEN – A south side supermarket is hoping to set a new world record with a pretty sweet celebration. Close to 20,000 pineapples went on display June 28 at the Schnucks store at 5055 Arsenal Street.

The family-owned grocery is joining forces with Fyffes produce to break a world record. But beyond that, the event supports a good cause: A portion of sales from all pineapples purchased are going towards Folds of Honor, a nonprofit that provides scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled military service members.

On the pineapples’ debut day, Schnucks shoppers were treated to free samples of pineapple-themed food, desserts and drinks, with free face painting and cookie decorating for children.

There’s still time to get in line for some extra cash: Schnucks is hosting a selfie contest that officially ends at 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 5. Any customer who uses the hashtag #WorldsLargestPineappleDisplay on Instagram while posting their best pineapple-display selfie will be entered for a chance to win a thousand dollars in Schnucks gift cards. Winners will be notified on or before July 19 via direct message on Instagram.

This event is the latest effort put on by the grocery chain in support of Folds of Honor.
