Miller Career keeps pace, heads to Springfield

The Career Academy Phoenix came out swinging and never looked back.

Junior Guard Rayn Tally did her part to secure a trip to Springfield with an impressive 23 points in the 54-48 win over the Cape Notre Dame Bulldogs.

Miller Career entered the game 18-7, fresh off a narrow victory over Rockwood Summit. Tally wasn’t alone. She saw great production from teammates Ajanae Garrett and Antuanae Garrett, both scoring 10 points on Saturday.

The first three frames of the game belonged to the Phoenixes, outscoring Cape by 13 points entering the last 8 minutes of play including a 6-0 run to open the game.

The Bulldogs, not wanting to see their season end so quickly, fought back, with an explosive 23-point quarter but could not overcome the lead the Phoenixes had built themselves.

This isn’t the Phoenixes’ first trip to the Final Four. Miller finished 4th in their class last year where they were knocked off by Carl Junction High out of Joplin MO. Had they won that game, they would have face eventual state champions, Incarnate Word.

A year later, Tally and squad get a chance to face the Big Red of Incarnate in the Semi-Finals. The Incarnate Red Knights come into the contest heavily favored with a record of 28-2.
